Mcpl Brett Richard was the torchbearer on board HMCS Vancouver in the final hours of the Paralympic Torch Relay. He is the longest serving amputee member of the Canadian Forces after 25 years in service as a clerk in North Bay. In 1988 he lost his leg in a winch cable accident. On board HMCS Vancovuer he shook hands with many of the crew and posed for photos before the flame travelled by RHIB to an orca boat nearby where the cauldron on the foc'sil deck was lit. This was the final day of the Paralympic torch relay which willl end by lighting the cauldron in Vancouver marking the start of the games.
