The city’s UNESCO-listed historic centre, vibrant markets, colonial architecture, and expressive street life create endless layers of composition, light, and human interaction.
What makes it especially powerful is the depth of indigenous culture and tradition still very much alive — from artisan crafts and textiles to ceremonies, music, and festivals — all of which provide authentic, emotional moments to capture rather than staged scenes. The surrounding villages, mezcal regions, and dramatic landscapes add even more variety, allowing photographers to move seamlessly between street photography, portraiture, documentary work, and landscapes.
